Engr. Kam-Selem Alhaji Bukar was born on Tuesday September 26, 1972, into the family of Alhaji Bukar Mairambe; a famous Islamic Scholar and Businessman of repute in the modest town of Bama, Borno State of Nigeria.

He was enrolled in an Islamic Madrasah at the age of three (3) as is the practice in most of Borno homes. He started his primary school education at the age of six (6) upon enrolment at Kasugula ‘A’ primary School in Bama.

At the completion of his primary education in 1984, he proceeded to Yerwa Comprehensive Secondary school in Maiduguri. His desire to study engineering made him to attend Government Senior Science Secondary School, Bama in 1989.

He proceeded to the Ramat Polytechnic, Maiduguri in1991, where he graduated with a National Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology in 1994.

Engr Kam-Selem joined Sani-Mustapha and Associates (SMA), a leading Consulting firm of Civil and Structural Engineers in the North East Zone as a Technical Officer in 1994. SMA was then headed by the renowned Engr. Mustapha Bulama of blessed memory.

Engr Kam-Selem enrolled at the University of Maiduguri also in 1994 where he graduated with Bachelor of Science degree in Civil and Water Resources Engineering in 1999 with Second Class Upper Division.

He rose through the ranks within Sani-Mustapha and Associates where he is currently a partner. He was involved in the Feasibility, Design and Supervision of numerous Engineering Projects, among which are:-

  • The Principal Consultant on the just completed Borno Express Terminus Junction Trumphet Interchange, Maiduguri, Borno State.
  • The Dualization of Network of Roads in Maiduguri Township, Maiduguri, Borno State.
  • The Principal Consultant for the multiple levels Custom Flyover, Maiduguri, Borno State.
  • Unity Bank Towers in Central Business District Area, Abuja.
  • The Magnificent Yobe Mosque and Islamic Centre, Damaturu, Yobe State.
  • Institutional Buildings for the Presidential Committee on Resettlement of Nigerians affected by the ICJ ruling in the Lake Chad Area.
  • Civil Works for various NNPC locations in the Chad Basin area.
  • Construction and Expansion of Mega Roads and Bridges in Kano City, among others.
  • Rapid Technical Audit for Water Supply Projects, Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Abuja.
  • Vocational Training Centre, Maiduguri, (Muhammad VI Foundation, Morocco).
  • Member Technical Team for the Conceptualization and Design of Interchanges within Maiduguri Township.
  • A serving member of Engineering Accreditation Committee (EAC) of COREN.
  • Chairman, COREN ERM Council Committee for the Drafting of National ERM Reporting Template, 2020.
  • Dualization of Ahmadu Bello Way and other Roads Projects including two (2) Bridges within Maiduguri Township.

Engr Kam-Selem has been an active member of the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), Maiduguri Branch, where he has held numerous positions in the last twenty (20) years. He is a past Branch Chairman, NSE Maiduguri and past Chairman, Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (NICE), Maiduguri chapter. He was a two-time National Vice Chairman and a two-time ExCo Member for the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers; he was an Assistant Chief Examiner for NSE Corporate Membership Examinations, Maiduguri Centre.

Engr. Kam-Selem is a member of the Engineering Regulation and Monitoring Committee of COREN and COREN inspector for Maiduguri Zone. He is a fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), fellow of the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (FNICE) and fellow of the Nigerian Institution of Highway and Transportation Engineers. He is also a Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). He is a member of Council of COREN and also a member of Council of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.

Sani-Mustapha and Associates nominated him for election into the Council of the Association for Consulting Engineering in Nigeria (ACEN) in 2012, he won the election for council seat for North East zone (Zonal Coordinator), and he also served as a member of the Membership Committee of ACEN for over twelve (12) years, Honorary Treasurer (2020-2021) and Vice President (2022-2023).

Engr Kam-Selem A. Bukar became the President and Chairman in council of the Association of Consulting Engineering in Nigeria, ACEN in January 2024.

He is happily married with children.
